Adult ADHD Evaluations in Edina, Minnesota

Understanding the evaluation process and preparing for your appointment

Alexandra Steinbrueck, PhD, LP · Licensed Psychologist

The goal of an adult ADHD evaluation is to better understand your experiences, identify your strengths and challenges, and determine whether ADHD, another condition, or a combination of factors may be contributing to your current difficulties.

ThriveWell Psychology provides comprehensive adult ADHD evaluations in Edina for adults from Minneapolis, Saint Paul, and communities throughout Minnesota. Self-referrals are welcome, and insurance is accepted.

What Should I Expect During the Evaluation?

The evaluation includes three appointments, each lasting approximately one hour.

1. Diagnostic Assessment

The evaluation begins with a comprehensive clinical interview. We discuss your current concerns, developmental history, educational and occupational experiences, medical and mental health history, strengths, challenges, and goals for the evaluation.

This appointment may be completed either in person or through secure telehealth.

2. In-Person Psychological Testing

Psychological testing provides objective information to help clarify diagnosis and treatment recommendations. You will complete standardized assessment activities and questionnaires that examine attention, executive functioning, emotional well-being, and other factors that may help explain your concerns.

At least one appointment must be completed in person at the ThriveWell Psychology office in Edina.

3. Feedback and Recommendations

We review the evaluation results together, discuss diagnostic impressions, answer your questions, and develop individualized recommendations. Recommendations may address treatment, workplace or academic accommodations, coaching, therapy, medication consultation, or other supports when appropriate.

The feedback appointment may be completed either in person or through telehealth. You will also receive a written evaluation report.

Possible Evaluation Outcomes

The evaluation may identify ADHD, another condition, multiple contributing conditions, or no diagnosis. In some cases, additional information may be needed before a conclusion can be reached.

Because anxiety, depression, trauma, sleep difficulties, stress, and other concerns can overlap with ADHD symptoms, the evaluation considers more than attention alone. This comprehensive approach helps support accurate diagnosis and useful recommendations.

Questionnaires and Forms

Before or during the evaluation, you will complete intake forms and standardized questionnaires. These measures provide information about current concerns, childhood experiences, attention and executive functioning, and emotional well-being.

Questionnaires typically take approximately 25 to 45 minutes to complete. Please answer each item as accurately as possible.

Input From Someone Who Knows You Well

With your permission, I may ask a parent, partner, sibling, or long-time friend to provide additional information. When possible, input from someone familiar with your childhood can be especially helpful. This perspective helps clarify how symptoms have appeared over time and across different areas of your life.

Insurance and Self-Referrals

ThriveWell Psychology accepts insurance for adult ADHD evaluations, and self-referrals are welcome. Coverage and out-of-pocket costs vary by plan, so contact your insurance company to confirm your psychological assessment benefits and whether prior authorization is required.
